I carried a watermelon (and then got an art studio).

Yesterday, I learned that even the fish here operate on an Italian time schedule.  In other words, if I want to eat fish on Monday, it’s not possible, because none of the fish nooks around the house are open.  By the time that I walked to the last store in this sweltering weather that we are having and found another empty counter, I was so disheartened that, instead, I bought a huge, whole watermelon next door.  And then I realized that that probably wasn’t the smartest form of anger release, because now I had to carry this huge, whole watermelon back through the city of Ancona (which is made up of infinite hills) to bring it home [Baby couldn’t have said it better: “I carried a watermelon!”].  At that point, I was so hot and grumpy that I ate a box of ice creams instead.

And then proceeded to be slightly more productive, playing around with watercolors and ink pens and views of Anconca:

And then the day got about 10523847x better, because Mr. Italian came home with a hand drill.  Which means, that the desk could be put together, and the shelves attached to the walls (which probably deserves a whole post to itself…), and now I have MY VERY OWN ART STUDIO SPACE in the middle of a little, cluttered flat in Ancona:

ArtDeskFinal

Which makes me squee and ooh and aah and utter all sorts of other inhuman noises of happiness.  It still needs one more shelf attached to the desk and to be organized and I need to make a proper curtain to separate it from the rattling of the fridge, but, for now, I am floating high above on a cloud of utter and complete bliss : )
