Milano, mi mancherai.

So, I decided to decline the job offer for another semester of teaching in Lombardia.  The school I was supposed to assist at is in the very center of Milano, and the host family that would provide free lodgings and meals was lovely.  And yet… after many days of tormented contemplation, I withdrew my acceptance of the post.  Which feels pretty silly, especially considering the fact that I am surrounded by herds of people that would pounce on this offer in a second.

Why?

I’m not sure.  For one part, organization and students’ attitude toward school is kind wearing me down.  And for the other,  I would like to get some experience in an Italian theater before applying to Brera in the fall (I’m going to save my rant for the absurd procedure of college application in this country for another post).  And if that goes successfully, I’ll have plenty of time to lounge around Milano- even if I won’t be getting paid for it or having home-cooked meals.

It’s a little bit daunting, having a completely open horizon.  In three weeks, I’ll be free.  No more job, no more lease, no ties of any sort to any place.  I’m excited to see where I will be sitting a month from now : )  Looking into theaters in Italy- if you know of anyone that wants a little backstage helped, lemme know.

Though, let me finish up saying that this time in Monza was the most special experience that I have done.  I loved being solo in Italy, I loved walking the corridors of the villa that is my school, I loved all of the late-night culture adventure in Milano, and I love the passion story that started spinning itself around my block.  It was a good semester, and I’ll miss it.

Thus… painting homage to Milano.  Italians are not very thrilled about this city, but I fell in love with it.  Especially in the autumn, with all of the bleak colors and the rainy pavements and the subtle shadows:

If I do end up leaving this nook of the woods (er, streets and cluttered towns?), I have a feeling that I will be back before long! : )
